What They Do:

Motor Drives are electrical devices that convert
AC supply voltage into variable frequency output
in order to control both the torque and speed
of a servo motor

Primary Types and How They Work:

VFD Drives are typically available in ratings from
5 to 600 HP, with voltage ratings that vary
between 100VAC to 480VAC. These motors run at
0 to 60 Hz. They are able to run in constant speed
or torque modes.

Repair Procedures:

  • Replace defective components.
  • Tighten / replace hardware as needed.
  • Replace capacitor devices.
  • Test with motor up to 100% rated load.
  • Verify communication with a PLC or PC.
  • Run VFD's in a dynometer.
  • Verify H.I.M. operation.
  • Test servo drives on a family system or robot.
