Piston Motor Product Guide
Brands We Repair:
What They Do:
A Piston Motor converts hydraulic energy into
rotating motion by being pushed by hydraulic fluid.
Piston motors will product equal torque and speed in
either rotation, and can operate with high pressure
on either or both ports at the same time.
Primary Types and How They Work:
Construction of a piston motor is similar to that of
piston pumps. Some piston pumps will act as motors
without modifications. As a motor, the pistons push
against a circular ramp, (cam plate) to produce rotary
motion on the shaft.
Radial Piston Motor:
A radial piston motor operates just the opposite of the
radial piston pump. In a radial piston pump, the cylinder
block rotates, the pistons press against the rotors are
forced in and out of the cylinders, then receiving fluid
and pushing it into the system. In the radial motor, fluid
is forced into the cylinders and drives the pistons outward.
The pistons pushing against the rotor cause the cylinder
block to rotate.
MHT Motor:
MHT motors provide variable power throughout their entire pressure and speed range, and perform efficiently in either direction of rotation.
Bent Axis Motor:
A bent axis pump having a port in the housing which the port is movable to vary the displacement of the pump and including leak-proof transfer sleeves extending between the port and the housing to effect flow of fluid between the pump housing and port.
