What They Do:

Power Supplies typically take available electric
power and convert that primary source into usable
sources for various devices.

Primary Types and How They Work:

As an example of a typical system, power supplies
for PLC's convert 120 VAC power into lower
DC voltages, for example 5.1 volts for a CPU
or system board, as well as provide other
DC voltage terminals for proper voltage
delivery for other circuits.

Repair Procedures:

  • Test power supply up to rated load.
  • Set current limit to nameplate specifications.
  • Replace all capacitors.
  • Replace any defective coponents.
  • Calibrate output voltage.
  • Test sense line.
